Remember that the term orthopaedic and other derivations of the word only mean that the bed is a firmer specification from the manufacturer. There are no universal standards of firmness is common used in the UK. Here at Simply Mattress we have tested all our mattresses and categorauize them mainly into six categories of Soft, Soft-Medium, Medium, Medium-Firm, Firm and Extra Firm. Most mattresses need regularly turning to ensure even wear and tear and today's mattresses can be pretty heavy, so be careful! However, there are now plenty of non-turn options, which only need swivelling around from time to time, while others need to be turned only once or twice a year. People don't buy large enough beds and mattresses. 75% of all the double beds are still the standard 4ft 6in/135cm wide double- yet this is plainly not room enough for two adults to sleep comfortably together without disturbing each other. Even upgrading to the next size, a 5ft /150cm king size, whilst it takes up very little extra bedroom space, makes a considerable difference! There are no uniform or universal standards of sizes or names for mattress sizes that have to be used in law: the terms that are used are decsriptive and there is no guarantee that the term King, for example, will be applied to exactly the same size product by different manufacturers. Metric sizes are not exactly the same as imperial sizes, either. The following are the sizes we use: Common Name Usual Size (Imperial) Usual Size (metric) Single 3ft x 6ft 3in 90cm x x190cm Double 4ft 6in x 6ft 3in 135cm x 190cm King size 5ft x 6ft 6in 150cm x 200cm Super King 6ft x 6ft 6in 180cm x 200cm Your nearest department store should carry a range of sizes, there are also a number of online stockists that supply a range of different sizes. It varies according to the type of mattress and the amount of usage but, as a general rule, if you wake up with aches and pains which disappear over the course of the day, you are not sleeping as well as you did a year ago or the mattress shows signs of wear, it is probably time to change your bed. Some mattresses come with a longer guarantee or warranty which is an indication that the mattress is likely to last for longer period of time. A goog quality mattress can last between 7-10yrs providing the mattress is looked after. We can not dispose of your old mattress as we use couriers but your Local Aurthority waste disposal/refuse collection service will usually take large items on request but some make a charge. Most local charities will often welcome a mattress in reasonable condition so it may be worth giving them a call. If in the unlikely event your mattress is faulty , please contact us as soon as possible via e-mail at sales@simplymattress.co.uk or via telephone on 01482 573530. Will a more expensive bed be better to sleep on? Not necessarily as comfort is a matter of individual preference; a very firm expensive bed may be uncomfortable if you prefer a softer mattress but a better quality bed will be more expensive than a poor quality one because the thicker, more luxurious mattress fillings and covers are more costly. My mattress has an odour is that normal? Most mattresses have a chemical smell when you first take the packaging off. This is quite normal and most mattresses should be aired before use. You should always unwrap your mattresses as soon as possible What are Continuous Coil and Open Coil Mattresses? These mattresses are aimed at individuals looking for an economical option. Continuous coil are made from one single looped wire and open coil mattresses are made up of single springs that are attatched by wire. What is Miracoil™ Mattress? Miracoil is the Trade Mark name of the spring system that Silent Night use. This system is manufactured from one continuous coil of wire made up into twice as many springs as a conventional system. The springs run head to toe ensuring body weight is distributed up and down the bed, giving you and your partner the support you need despite differences in size or weight. What is the difference between Miracoil 3 and Miracoil 7? Both mattresses feature the Miracoil spring system, Miracoil 7 gives you all the benefits of our Miracoil 3, but has been enhanced to feature an extra sensitive support layer to provide more targeted support. With even more gentle cushioning aroung the shoulder and neck area and more sensitive support around the hips, our Miracoil 7 offer luxurious comfort with ultimate support. All miracoil 7 beds are finished off with a layer of Cirrus Airflow, which stops you overheatingfor a deep healthy sleep. What is a Pocket Sprung Mattress? In a pocket sprung mattress all springs are individually housed in fabric pockets. They therefore move independantly and provide better support for your back as they can contour effectively to you back. Roll together is eliminated on pocket sprung mattresses as each person is sleeping on their own set of springs. More springs does not necessarily mean that the mattress is firmer. What is memory foam? Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that moulds to your body therefore provding excellent support. Memory foam is renowned for its pressure relieving qualities so is especially good for anyone can reap benefits. Memory foam has hypoallergenic qualities as bed bugs find it difficult to set up home there! This could be useful for anyone suffering from allergies such as Asthma. Memory foam is very durable so you should exoect to have your mattress for longer. You can get two types of memory foam mattresses either a Sprung and Memory foam mattress or a full foam mattress which consists of foam on the bottom and Memory foam on the top. What is a Latex Mattress Latex Mattresses have very similar properties to a memory foam mattress in that they mould effectively to the contours of your body. Latex is a natural product whilst Memory Foam is man made. What is a full foam mattress? These mattresses are made entirely of foam and have no springs in them therefore provide a silent sleep. These mattresses are highly recommended for anyone with allergies such as asthma as bed bugs find it difficult to survive in these conditions. Standard foam mattresses should not be confused with memory foam mattresses.
